Rimuru Tempest’s second cinematic journey is preparing for its debut. On Thursday, February 12th, 2026, the official team behind That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea (Gekijō-ban Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Sōkai no Namida-hen) released a brief introductory clip. This footage showcased Rimuru and his allies traveling on an air dragon vessel, soaring towards a luxurious island resort situated in the elf nation of Sarion. The clip takes place after the Tempest Federation’s inaugural festival, initially presenting a carefree vacation vibe before more sinister elements come into play.
The movie is scheduled to premiere in Japanese cinemas on February 27, 2026. Crunchyroll has secured the global theatrical rights, with distribution handled by Sony Pictures Entertainment. International screening dates and venues will be announced in due course. Take a look at the newly released clip below:
A 30-minute television special will air on NTV on February 21st at 3:35 a.m. (making it effectively February 22). It will feature interviews with voice actors Miho Okasaki (Rimuru), Koichi Domoto (Zodon), and Hinatazaka46 idols Nao Kosaka (Mio) and Kaho Fujishima (Yori). Okasaki and Domoto will also visit the animation studio, while comedian Crystal Noda will express his appreciation for the series.
The narrative begins following Tempest’s grand founding celebration. Elmesia, the sovereign of the elf nation Sarion, extends an invitation to Rimuru and his principal officials for a relaxing retreat on a resort island. Amidst their enjoyment, a mysterious young woman named Yura emerges, bringing with her an ominous aura that compels Rimuru to confront a new adversary. The original voice cast members will return to their roles from the television series.
The film’s new cast additions include:
- Saori Ōnishi portraying Yura, the priestess of the water dragon in Kaien
- Koichi Domoto as Zodon, a cabinet minister from the seabed nation of Kaien
- Kōji Yusa taking on the role of Djeese, Kaien’s prime minister
- Hinatazaka46’s Nao Kosaka as Mio, an original shrine maiden character
- Hinatazaka46’s Kaho Fujishima as Yori, another original shrine maiden character
The film’s theme songs include “Sōkoku” (Blue Moment) by Saori Ōnishi, “Renainō” (Talent for Romance) by ARCANA PROJECT, and “Harmonics,” a collaboration between STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION and ASH DA HERO. A single featuring these tracks, alongside TRUE’s theme “Utopia,” will be released on February 28th in both limited first and regular editions. 8-Bit is once again handling the animation, maintaining their consistent work from the main series. The movie presents an original narrative set within the established universe, blending elements of vacation antics with escalating danger.
The Reincarnated As A Slime franchise continues to thrive actively. A fourth season is slated to premiere on April 3rd, 2026, spanning five cours (quarters of a year), with the initial two airing consecutively. 8-Bit will return as the animation studio, and Miho Okasaki will reprise her role as Rimuru Tempest. The third season ran from April to September 2024 (comprising 24 episodes plus a 48.5 special), while various spinoffs and side stories like The Slime Diaries, the Scarlet Bond film (2022), and Visions of Coleus (2023) have further expanded the universe.
Crunchyroll offers streaming access to both the series and films, complete with subtitles and English dubbing. The TV anime first launched in October 2018, adapting Fuse and Mitz Vah’s light novels through Taiki Kawakami’s manga adaptation.
The Tears of the Azure Sea film promises an engaging blend of everyday relaxation and intense conflict, as Rimuru’s expanding federation faces an enigmatic underwater challenge. The resort island backdrop introduces fresh settings and characters, while the return of familiar voices ensures narrative continuity. With a strong ensemble cast, new musical contributions, and global cinematic release plans, the film is poised to deliver another fulfilling installment for fans. Be sure to mark February 27th on your calendars for its Japanese release, and stay tuned for international screening updates. Will you be anticipating or watching the film upon its release?
