The Dragon’s Roar Returns! Yona of the Dawn Sequel Officially Confirmed, Pierrot Films Takes Flight!
After more than a decade of fervent anticipation, Princess Yona’s epic journey is finally continuing on screen, and we have our studio: Pierrot Films! This isn’t just a rumor; it’s official, direct from the anime’s X account and the final manga volume’s release day. The long wait for more Hak, more dragons, and more of Yona’s incredible growth is almost over!
A Decade of Waiting Ends: Pierrot Films Takes the Helm!
The news broke on October 20, 2026, setting the internet ablaze: Pierrot Films will be handling the animation production for the long-awaited Yona of the Dawn anime sequel! This is huge for fans who’ve watched Princess Yona’s story continue in the manga, longing for its animated return.
Crucially, this keeps production in the family. The original 2014 TV anime was produced by Studio Pierrot, and Pierrot Films is their rebranded, high-quality production arm. Fans might recognize their recent work on Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War — a significant connection, as Bleach: TYBW also marked a triumphant return for a beloved, decade-dormant Pierrot adaptation. This track record suggests a studio capable of delivering a visually stunning and faithful continuation for Yona’s saga. We’re expecting nothing less than the dynamic action and breathtaking visuals that Pierrot Films has been showcasing.
Manga’s Grand Finale Paves the Way
The studio reveal wasn’t the only big news on October 20th. That same day, Mizuho Kusanagi’s beloved Yona of the Dawn manga released its 48th and final collected volume in Japan, bringing the print story to its emotional conclusion. Kusanagi herself took to X, expressing her joy for the support and urging readers to see the end of Yona and her companions’ journey, while also enthusiastically asking fans to support the new anime sequel!
This timing is perfect: with the manga now complete, the animation team has the entire, sprawling narrative of Princess Yona’s evolution from a naive royal to a formidable leader to draw from. No more worrying about catching up or pacing issues; the full, rich tapestry of her adventures with Hak, Yun, Kija, Shin-ah, Jae-ha, and Zeno is ready to be adapted.
What We Know (And What We’re Still Waiting For!)
